As part of enhancing the transportation system in Riyadh and preparing it to become a leading hub for sustainable mobility and logistics services in the Middle East, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Board of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, launched the Riyadh Main and Ring Road Axes Development Program.
The program includes the implementation and development of more than 500 kilometers of road network across the capital, through the addition of new roads, improvement of existing main corridors, and the integration of these routes to form a cohesive and efficient network.
The program represents one of the key pillars for achieving the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 under the Quality of Life theme, through the development of an integrated and sustainable urban transport system that contributes to making Riyadh a more connected, green, and globally competitive city.
Program goals include the following:
The program is being implemented through a number of project groups that cover different areas of the city, ensuring an even distribution of efforts and the coordinated execution of works in well-organized phases.
Implementation works for the first group were launched on August 14, 2024, comprising four major projects with a total cost of SAR 13 billion.
This group represents the foundational phase of the program, focusing on improving connectivity between the outer areas of the city and enhancing traffic flow across the western corridors.
Implementation works for the second group were launched on February 2, 2025, comprising eight development projects with a total cost exceeding SAR 8 billion.
This phase is distinguished by its broader geographic scope and its focus on enhancing the efficiency of the city’s internal corridors and improving connectivity between the northern, eastern, and western parts of the capital.
The eight projects included in the second phase are:
Engineering Modifications for Congested Sites – Package One
Implementation works for the third group were launched on December 29, 2025. This group includes 6 projects with a total cost exceeding SAR 8 billion, and will be implemented within 3-4 years:
Engineering modifications for congested areas “Package Two”, improving 8 locations and increasing average capacity by 40–60%.
