5 Bridges, 1 Tunnel to Ease Traffic Flow on Second Southern Ring Road
Development works on the Second Southern Ring Road project are advancing steadily at the Imam Muslim Road intersection, where construction is now underway on five bridges spanning a combined 838 meters, together with a 65-meter tunnel. These efforts aim to improve the efficiency of the capital’s road network and keep traffic flowing smoothly along one of its key arteries. Ultimately, the upgrades will strengthen connectivity between neighboring communities and reduce travel times.
The project spans 56 kilometers — stretching from Jeddah Road in the west to the new Al-Kharj Road in the east — and establishes a new major axis in southern Riyadh. The development aims to raise the road’s future capacity to 440,000 vehicles daily.
The Second Southern Ring Road project falls under the First Package of the Main and Ring Road Axes Development Program. RCRC is advancing this program by executing and upgrading more than 500 kilometers of the city’s road network, supporting a fully integrated, sustainable urban transport ecosystem that keeps pace with Riyadh’s rapid growth and helps improve residents’ quality of life.
