Riyadh Sustainability Strategy

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, launched the Riyadh Sustainability Strategy on 17 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1443 AH, corresponding to 23 October 2021, at the inaugural Saudi Green Initiative Forum in Riyadh — with the aim of transforming Riyadh into one of the most sustainable cities in the world.

Strategy Pillars

Riyadh is delivering an ambitious portfolio of programmes and projects to strengthen environmental sustainability and improve quality of life. The Riyadh Sustainability Strategy sets out a wide range of targets and performance indicators, pursued in partnership with the relevant entities across five core environmental pillars:

The foremost targets of the Riyadh Sustainability Strategy for 2030 are as follows:

Riyadh Environmental Sustainability Technical Committee

Bringing together more than 25 relevant entities, the committee oversees delivery of Riyadh’s Environmental Sustainability Executive Programme in service of the Riyadh Sustainability Strategy, Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative.

Arab Environment Capital

Riyadh was named “Arab Environment Capital” for two years at the 35th session of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment, chaired by the Kingdom in October 2024, in recognition of its leading efforts in environmental protection and sustainability.
