First Lady of South Korea plants sapling at Riyadh’s Scientific Park

The first Lady of South Korea today planted a tree in Riyadh on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of relations between Saudi Arabia and South Korea.

The First Lady Kim Keon-hee, who is on a visit to the Kingdom along with His Excellency Yoon Suk Yeol, President of South Korea, planted the sapling at the Scientific Park during an event organized by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC).

The First Lady was received at the Scientific Park by His Highness Prince Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf, Mayor of Riyadh, and Engineer Abdulaziz Al-Muqbel, the Executive Director of Green Riyadh at RCRC.

On the occasion, a presentation was made on Green Riyadh, its impact on the quality of life and environment, the growth and development of the capital, and the city’s ongoing projects to achieve the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

The Green Riyadh is one of the megaprojects in Riyadh, launched by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, at the initiative of H.R.H. Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The project aims to plant more than 7.5 million trees in Riyadh, increasing urban greenery to 9 per cent of the capital city’s area, raising the per capita share of green space from 1.7 m2 to 28 m2, marking a remarkable 16-fold increase over the existing coverage. As a result, the project will significantly enhance the presence of greenery in the residential areas of Riyadh.

The project will contribute to achieving the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative and Vision 2030 to plant 10 billion trees inside the Kingdom in the coming decades.
