RCRC: Central Al-Thumamah Road Corridor Development Advances with Execution of Three Tunnels and A Bridge

RCRC: Central Al-Thumamah Road Corridor Development Advances with Execution of Three Tunnels and A Bridge
25 July, 2026

Construction on the Central Al-Thumamah Road Development Project advances steadily, driving the efforts of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) to enhance road network efficiency and streamline traffic along one of the capital’s most vital corridors. Current on-site operations focus on executing three tunnels and a bridge at the intersections of Al-Thumamah Road with King Abdulaziz Road and Imam Saud bin Faisal Road. These structural upgrades enhance cross-city connectivity, boost vehicular capacity, and significantly reduce travel times.

Spanning 10 kilometers, the comprehensive project upgrades multiple key intersections while delivering 11 overpasses and 5 tunnels. Collectively, these infrastructure enhancements elevate the efficiency of Riyadh’s wider road network and upgrade overall traffic service standards.

Designed with three main lanes in each direction, the upgraded artery expands structural capacity to accommodate up to 200,000 vehicles daily, ensuring uninterrupted transit between Riyadh’s eastern and western parts.

To support ongoing field operations, RCRC has activated an integrated traffic management plan in coordination with relevant authorities. The plan deploys highly structured temporary detours and designated alternative routes, reinforced by extensive directional signage and navigational updates to ensure drivers safety and sustain continuous traffic flow.
