RCRC Announces Riyadh Metro Reaches 200 Million Passengers

RCRC Announces Riyadh Metro Reaches 200 Million Passengers
14 March, 2026

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) announced that the Riyadh Metro has reached a new operational milestone, recording a total of 200 million passengers. This milestone reflects the project’s accelerating growth and the increasing adoption of public transport across the capital, coming shortly after it surpassed the 100-million passenger mark.

The RCRC stated that this significant growth in ridership is driven by the high operational efficiency of the metro’s six lines. The Blue Line (Olaya Street axis) continued to record the highest passenger share, accounting for 45% of total ridership, followed by the Red Line (King Abdullah Road axis) at 16%, and the Orange Line (Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah Road axis) at 14%. The remaining lines have also recorded steady growth, reflecting the strength of the network’s integration and its ability to connect key districts and neighborhoods across the city.

Since its launch, the project has maintained world-class operational standards. The Riyadh Metro has covered a total distance of 32.2 million kilometers and completed 1.13 million trips, while service quality has exceeded 99.81%, enhancing reliability for residents and visitors. Meanwhile, major and interchange stations – including Qasr Al-Hukm, STC, KAFD, and the National Museum- have continued to record the highest passenger volumes, thanks to their strategic role in linking multiple lines and enabling smooth passenger transfers across the network.

The RCRC emphasized that this achievement reflects the strong integration between the metro network, the Riyadh Bus system, and on-demand bus services, in addition to the availability of park-and-ride facilities for public transport users. Together, these elements provide a seamless and comprehensive mobility experience, enabling passengers to travel smoothly from their points of origin to their final destinations.

Reaching this record-breaking milestone underscores the Riyadh Metro’s role as a key pillar of RCRC’s strategy to enhance quality of life, reduce traffic congestion, and promote sustainable mobility in the capital. This aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to position Riyadh among the world’s most livable cities.
