RCRC Reports 27% Completion of the 56-km Second Southern Ring Road Project
As part of Riyadh’s comprehensive urban transformation, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has announced progress on the Second Southern Ring Road Project, a strategic component of the first phase of the Main & Ring Road Axes Development Program, launched with a total investment of SAR 13 billion. Spanning 56 km from Jeddah Road in the west to the new Al-Kharj Road in the east, the Second Southern Ring Road Project will serve as a major arterial corridor that supports the city’s continued growth. It will include four main lanes and three service lanes in each direction, with a total capacity of up to 440,000 vehicles per day.

Construction advances steadily, with the project now reaching 27% completion. The works comprise 10 main intersections, 32 flyovers and bridges, 20 tunnels, and 77 stormwater drainage culverts that support the road’s long-term sustainability. One of the project’s standout architectural features is the Wadi Hanifah Bridge, which measures 174 meters in length and 70 meters in width. The project also includes several key intersections, such as the Jeddah Road intersection, which features six bridges; the Dirab Road intersection, with eight bridges; and the Al-Kharj Road intersection, which includes three bridges, the longest of which extends 642 meters.

The Second Southern Ring Road is a strategic project that will play a key role in improving mobility across southern Riyadh. It forms a cornerstone of the first phase of the Main & Ring Road Axes Development Program, which includes the construction and upgrade of more than 500 km of roads across the city. The program aims to introduce new routes, enhance the efficiency of existing arterial corridors, and strengthen overall connectivity. These efforts support the Quality of Life objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and contribute to the development of a more integrated and sustainable urban transport network, further reinforcing Riyadh’s position as a leading global city.
