18 February, 2025

As part of the preparatory phase for Riyadh Expo 2030, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has organized a series of specialized workshops at its headquarters. These sessions convened the Riyadh Expo 2030 team, key stakeholders, and international experts and consultants from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). The event was also attended by Eng. Abdulaziz Alghannam , General Director of Expo 2030 Riyadh Support Office, and Mr. Dimitri Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the BIE.

The workshops resulted in full alignment on the technical and organizational components of the registration process. In line with its commitment to presenting a comprehensive registration dossier, the RCRC seeks to highlight Saudi Arabia’s ambition to host an exceptional and unprecedented World Expo, further solidifying Riyadh’s position as a global hub for major international events.

With the completion of these workshops, the Riyadh Expo 2030 team is now gearing up to submit the official registration dossier at the upcoming General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris.

The Kingdom’s bid to host the World Expo 2030 in Riyadh received direct and significant support from HRH the Crown Prince, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Board of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, starting with the Kingdom’s official application announcing its candidacy to the BIE on October 29, 2021.

The BIE announced Saudi Arabia’s win after a secret ballot during the 173rd General Assembly of the Bureau meeting in Paris today. Saudi Arabia’s bid garnered 119 votes (out of 165 votes in total) from member countries, competing against South Korea’s Busan (29 votes) and Italy’s Rome (17 votes).

It’s worth noting that International Expos have been held since 1851, serving as the largest global platform to showcase the latest achievements and technologies, promoting international cooperation in economic development, trade, arts, culture, and the dissemination of sciences and technology.
