RCRC established Salam Park as one of the most important recreational attractions in the vibrant heart of the capital Riyadh. On the fourteenth of the month of Dhu al-Qi’dah 1424 AH, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, may God support him, the head of the Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh (at that time), inaugurated the project announcing the launch of one of the largest tourist parks in the capital.

Distinctive geographical location

The Salam Park site was chosen with great care, given the need for a natural and recreational outlet for the community at the heart of the city; the importance of green spaces and water bodies to break the density of buildings and various facilities; and the importance of the park to Riyadh’s status as a livable city. There were also political, economic, and social considerations in promoting the Qasr al-Hukam district as a vibrant heart of the capital.

Salam Park is located adjacent to the Qasr al-Hukam area from the southern side, and extends to a total area of 253,000m2, bordered by King Fahd Road to the west, Madinah Road to the north, Salam Street to the east, and Al-Asha Street to the south. This park was built on the land of the famous ‘Peace Farm’, which was expropriated long ago to be included in the city’s public facilities.

Mature vision

RCRC designed Salam Park as a multi-environment family destination that harmonizes with its surroundings. The project successfully preserved existing elements like the site’s palm plantations while introducing resilient, climate-appropriate green spaces for Riyadh.

Furthermore, RCRC designed the park to integrate seamlessly with King Fahd Road. By expanding the green spaces along this busy corridor, the park actively helps reduce pollutants from car emissions. It also connects directly to the road’s groundwater collection system, utilizing this sustainable water source to irrigate the park’s landscaping and supply its artificial lake.

Park Zones

Salam Park is a tapestry of distinct, beautifully crafted environments, each offering its own unique charm. These zones blend harmoniously to provide residents and visitors of the capital with a premier recreational and service-oriented experience. The park’s most notable areas include:

  • The Farm Zone: Situated in the northern section, this area honors the site’s rich heritage. It preserves the surviving palm trees from the original farm alongside newly planted fruit-bearing palms, creating a lush grove of over 1,000 trees.
  • The Rolling Hills: Spanning the central and western reaches of the park, this scenic landscape features undulating hills of varying heights, blanketed in lush green grass and dotted with scattered trees. Winding through this area—and much of the broader park—is a kilometer-long circular pedestrian pathway, perfect for a leisurely stroll.
  • The Lake: Serving as the centerpiece of the southern section, this magnificent lake spans 34,000 square meters and holds 110,000 cubic meters of water. Carefully engineered with varying depths up to five meters, the lakebed is reinforced with compacted clay and advanced insulation to conserve water. To maintain water quality and prevent algae or insect growth, a dynamic circulation system is in place. This includes beautifully illuminated night-time fountains, submerged current pumps, and specially selected aquatic plants. The lake is thoughtfully divided into two sections: one dedicated to recreational boating for visitors, and another preserved strictly for the natural ecosystem.
  • The Ecological Sanctuary: Located in the southeastern corner, this tranquil zone is dedicated to fostering a thriving natural habitat. It provides a safe, undisturbed haven for select local bird species, as well as a resting ground for migratory birds passing through the region during their seasonal journeys.

Park Facilities & Elements

Salam Park features a carefully curated collection of integrated elements and facilities designed to provide a seamless, comfortable experience for its visitors. These include:

  • The Mosque: The park houses a spacious 460-square-meter mosque, thoughtfully complemented by additional prayer spaces distributed across the grounds.
  • Lush Green Spaces: The park’s sprawling greenery covers an impressive 125,000 square meters. This vibrant landscape is brought to life by 1,250 palm trees, 2,000 shade trees, 87,000 shrubs, and 38,000 additional smaller plants.
  • Entrances & Gates: The park is accessible through multiple entryways, featuring beautifully designed main gates equipped with adjacent ticket booths for visitor convenience, as well as designated service gates to ensure smooth operations.
  • Administrative Offices: The site includes dedicated administrative offices, housing the official park management office operated by RCRC, alongside offices for the operating company’s staff.
  • Restrooms & Amenities: Visitor comfort is prioritized with six fully equipped restroom complexes conveniently located throughout the park. Each complex is also outfitted with dedicated drinking water coolers.
  • Pedestrian Pathways: An external paved walkway gracefully encircles the park’s perimeter. Inside, visitors can navigate the grounds via a one-kilometer primary circular trail, which connects to a welcoming network of winding secondary paths perfect for a relaxing stroll.
