Launched in 2019 (1441 AH) by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Board of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, the Riyadh Main and Ring Road Axes Development Program covers over 500 kilometers of road enhancements in the city of Riyadh. This program includes constructing new roads, upgrading existing main roads, and enhancing connectivity throughout the city.
The key components of the Riyadh Main and Ring Road Axes Development Program include:

The program follows a structured, multi-phase approach, with each phase comprising planned projects focused on the comprehensive development of Riyadh’s ring and main road network. The aim is to upgrade the city’s transportation infrastructure and position Riyadh as a strategic hub for sustainable transport and logistics in the Middle East. This ambitious initiative will ultimately transform the capital into a world-class metropolis, fully aligned with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
The Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) announced in August 2024 the commencement of the First Phase of Riyadh’s main and ring road development program. This phase includes the awarding of four major projects with a combined budget exceeding SAR 13 billion.
The construction of the Second Southern Ring Road, a 56-kilometer stretch extending from the new Al-Kharj Road in the east to Jeddah Road in the west. The project will feature four lanes for the main road in each direction, three service road lanes per direction, 10 main intersections, and 32 bridges, in addition to increasing the road capacity to 4,440,000 vehicles per day.
The construction of two parallel bridges alongside the existing Wadi Laban suspension bridge. The project also includes the development of a 4-kilometer stretch of the Western Ring Road at its intersection with Jeddah Road, along with the construction of four additional bridges at the Western Ring Road and Jeddah Road junction.
The development of the western section of the Thumama Road Axis, a 6-kilometer stretch extending from King Khalid Road in the west to King Fahd Road in the east.
The extension project of Taif Road from the Laban neighborhood to Qiddiya, covering 16 kilometers from the western end of Taif Road in Laban to the Qiddiya project
